Fuel Economy1

MPG (Miles Per Gallon)

A measure of fuel efficiency indicating how many miles a vehicle can travel on one gallon of fuel.

Higher MPG means better fuel efficiency. City, highway, and combined MPG ratings help compare vehicles. The difference between models can mean hundreds of dollars in annual fuel savings.

ExampleCombMPG: "32" (32 miles per gallon combined)

Fuel Type

Fuel

The type of fuel required by a vehicle (Regular, Premium, Diesel, Electric, E85, etc.).

Fuel type affects operating costs and availability. Regular gasoline is most common and least expensive. Premium is required for some performance vehicles. Diesel offers better fuel economy for trucks.

{ Fuel: "Regular" }

Drivetrain

The system that delivers power from the engine to the wheels (FWD, RWD, AWD, 4WD).

FWD (front-wheel drive) is efficient and handles well in rain. RWD (rear-wheel drive) offers better performance. AWD/4WD provide traction in snow and off-road but reduce fuel economy.

ExampleDrive: "AWD" (All-Wheel Drive)
